While I was out grocery shopping yesterday morning, I noticed the sakura trees in my neighborhood are starting to bloom, even though the weather has been a bit cloudy. They looked so beautiful that I had to stop and admire them.
Spring is definitely here, and now is the perfect time to add more books to your TBR!
There are lots of new releases coming out this season, and I’m especially excited about the fantasy ones. I can’t wait to read some of them.
In this post, I’ve put together a list of upcoming fantasy books, from whimsical and cozy reads to darker, more atmospheric stories—all great picks for spring!
Let’s get started!
1. Honeysuckle by Bar Fridman Tell
Release date: 2 April 2026

This book is based on Welsh mythology, which I find really intriguing. The story seems to focus on creation, identity, and relationships in a slightly surreal way. It even reminds me a bit of the film Ruby Sparks, where reality and imagination start to overlap.
2. The Book Witch by Meg Shaffer
Release date: 9 April 2026

The blurb describes this as a love letter to reading, which makes me want to pick it up right away. It follows a woman connected to books and magic, where stories shape reality in unexpected ways. A book about books and magic? I’m sold.
3. Death Meets Cute by J. Penner
Release date: 28 April 2026

This is a fantasy with a playful twist. It sounds like it follows an unusual encounter with Death, with a humorous, unexpected tone. It could be both quirky and surprisingly heartfelt.
4. We Burned So Bright by TJ Klune
Release date: 30 April 2026

TJ Klune always delivers character-driven fantasy, and this looks no different. From the blurbs, it seems to explore relationships, identity, and belonging, all wrapped in a magical setting.
5. The Bone Door by Frances White
Release date: 7 May 2026

This book has a darker tone, and the synopsis reminds me of the Japanese series Alice in Borderland. It seems to focus on secrets hidden behind a mysterious door, with themes of memory, identity, and something unsettling beneath the surface.
6. Startup Hell by Caitlin Rozakis
Release date: 19 May 2026

This book brings fantasy into modern life. It sounds like a chaotic mix of workplace satire and magic. From what I’ve read, it explores what happens when ambition, tech culture, and the supernatural come together.
7. The Rainshadow Orphans by Naomi Ishiguro
Release date: 26 May 2026

This story follows a group of characters navigating a strange, possibly altered world. It explores themes of connection, survival, and belonging.
8. A Dark and Wild Wood by Sarah Nicole Lemon
Release date: 21 May 2026

This is a darker fantasy with horror elements, probably set in a forest where things aren’t what they seem. It sounds like a story where the environment feels alive and unpredictable.
9. The Sourdough Compendium by A.G. Slatter
Release date: 2 June 2026

This book is a collection of interconnected stories that build the mythology behind some of A.G. Slatter’s novels. From what I’ve seen, it brings together dark, folklore-inspired tales with coffin-makers, witches, dangerous bargains, and even forest gods woven in.
If you enjoy gothic fantasy with fairy-tale elements and a slightly eerie edge, this one looks especially intriguing.
10. Shadow Reaper by Lynette Noni
Release date: 4 June 2026

This is a highly anticipated release. The story follows a character connected to death, power, or both. You can expect high stakes, action, and a strong central journey.
11. The Secret World of Briar Rose by Cindy Pham
Release date: 4 June 2026

Cindy is one of the BookTubers I used to enjoy watching, though I haven’t kept up with her videos lately. I was genuinely surprised and excited to see she’s publishing her own book this year.
From the title, I could tell it’s a Sleeping Beauty retelling, which makes me even more curious. This story seems to draw from fairy tales, following a character who discovers a hidden world full of magic, secrets, and a hint of danger.
12. The Tiny Magic Bookshop by August Bloom
Release date: 4 June 2026

Books, magic, and a bookshop—what more could you want? The story is set in a place where books might hold more than just stories.
It could be about discovery, connection, and the power of reading.
13. Maiden by Georgia Leighton
Release date: 4 June 2026

A myth-inspired fantasy following three women at the center of a brutal ritual where one is sacrificed each year to a Great Dragon.
Set in a kingdom built on blood and tradition, the story weaves themes of power, duty, and rebellion as secrets surface, and the fate of the kingdom hangs in the balance.
14. The Unmagical Life of Briar Jones by Lex Croucher
Release date: 9 June 2026

This book really stands out, and I’m especially looking forward to it. The story follows a character living in a magical world who doesn’t quite fit in, which feels relatable and interesting. It might be witty, character-focused, and a bit different from the others.
Final Thoughts
No matter what mood you’re in this spring, cozy, dark, or whimsical, there are so many exciting fantasy releases this season that’ll satisfy your cravings!
There’s a great mix of stories here, from whimsical and cozy reads to darker, more atmospheric ones. I love that there’s something for every mood. This is the kind of list that makes you want to slow down, pick a book, and get lost in it.
I’m really looking forward to Maiden and The Bone Door. Both seem like stories I’ll get completely lost in: a little dark, a little mysterious, and full of that immersive fantasy atmosphere I always love.
I already have a few of these on my TBR, and I think some of them might become new favorites.
Did any of these make it onto your TBR? I’d love to hear what you’re most excited to read this spring.
